Heat pump supply, installation and servicing in Whanganui
High wall, floor console and ducted heat pumps, sized correctly for each space. The electrical work is handled by the same team, from the switchboard to the final install.
Planning the installation
Back-to-back install
Straight through the wall
The indoor and outdoor units are mounted on either side of the same wall. It is the simplest installation, and the most cost effective.
Standard install
Around the corner and down the wall
The indoor unit is positioned to heat the room effectively, and the outdoor unit where it has good airflow and stays out of earshot. Pipework runs between the two.
Choosing the right heat pump
High wall
The most common option. Mounted high on an inside wall, with the outdoor unit outside. Needs clear wall space above head height, and is the quickest of the three to install.
Floor console
Sits at floor level, under a window or against a low wall. Suited to rooms where the upper walls are taken up by glass or joinery.
Ducted
A single unit in the roof space supplying several rooms through discreet ceiling grilles. The largest installation of the three, and best planned before the linings go on.
On the rule we use
4.8kilowatts
96 cubic metres of air, at 50 watts a cube.
- A room with a lot of glass needs more than that, and how much more is a look at the room rather than a sum.
- Between two sizes we go half a size up, unless the room is getting smaller.
Your choice of unit
We install all major makes and models, so if you have a specific unit in mind, we will fit it. The brand we recommend most is Panasonic, for its reliability and easy wifi control from your phone. Whichever unit you choose, it is sized for the space and installed to the same standard.

Wifi control
Most heat pumps we install include wifi control, so you can adjust your heating from anywhere. The app works alongside the remote and wall controller, with options to suit the whole household.
- Heat the house before you arrive
- Set morning and evening schedules
- Change settings from any room
- Monitor it while you are away
“A heat pump should be easy to run. The Panasonic app is one of the best we have used.”
Heat pump servicing
Regular servicing keeps a heat pump running efficiently and quietly, and helps extend its life. We service all makes and models, whether we installed the unit or not, and will give you an honest assessment of its condition.
- Filters removed, cleaned and refitted
- Indoor coil and fan cleaned
- Drain checked and cleared
- Pressures and temperatures tested while running
- Outdoor unit cleared and coil washed
- Isolator, cabling and connections checked
Heat pump FAQs
Will you install a unit I have bought myself?
Yes. Our workmanship is covered either way, and the unit's warranty stays with the supplier you bought it from. Let us know the make and model when you get in touch, along with any parts supplied, and we will price the installation around it.
What does an installation cost?
Every installation is priced after a site visit. The main factors are the unit, the length of the pipe run and what it passes through. The written quote sets out the unit, the installation and the electrical work separately, so you can see exactly what is included.
What size unit do I need?
The sizing tool above gives a starting point. Large windows, high ceilings, stairwells and cold rooms all affect the size needed, so the final sizing is confirmed at the site visit.
Do I have to have a Panasonic?
No. Panasonic is the brand we recommend most, but we install all major makes and models, including units you have chosen or purchased yourself.
Can you service one somebody else installed?
Yes. We service all makes and models, regardless of who installed them.
Who does the electrical side of it?
We do. As registered electricians, the circuit, isolator and any switchboard work are all part of the same job, with no second trade to organise. Certificates and records are supplied on completion.
